In today’s world, where we are frequently exposed to a fast pace and constant external demands, the ability to consciously manage and express emotions is becoming increasingly important. The AEQ method teaches us how to understand our body and emotions and express them in a way that not only improves our inner balance but also enhances the quality of our relationships with others.

Emotional expression is a natural process that allows us to release internal tension and communicate with our surroundings. However, mere expression of emotions is not always effective. Uncontrolled emotional release—such as outbursts of anger or excessive crying—can often lead to misunderstandings, conflict, and increased stress. Effective emotional expression requires conscious recognition of one’s internal states, their analysis, and thoughtful expression aligned with our needs and the surrounding environment.

The AEQ method emphasizes the importance of the connection between the body and emotions. Through regular practice of AEQ exercises, a person learns to recognize bodily signals that indicate accumulated or repressed emotions. For example, tension in the shoulders may point to unexpressed frustration, while a tight stomach might signal suppressed fear. Once these emotions become conscious, they can be expressed in ways that reduce tension and improve communication.

The difference between expressing and effectively expressing emotions lies in the level of awareness and control. Emotional expression often stems from unconscious reactions, whereas effective expression requires conscious recognition, processing, and adaptation of communication methods. For instance, instead of reacting with impulsive anger, using AEQ methods enables us to calmly and clearly express our need for change, increasing the likelihood of a positive outcome.

In line with the findings from the book The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, the body plays a crucial role in emotional expression and processing. Van der Kolk emphasizes that unprocessed emotions are often stored in the body as chronic tensions, which impact our ability to express emotions healthily. Learning to recognize these physical blockages and release them through conscious movement—as facilitated by the AEQ method—is essential for achieving emotional maturity.

Through effective emotional expression, we become more connected to ourselves and others, leading to better relationships, reduced stress, and greater inner fulfillment. At the same time, we develop a deeper understanding of our physical and emotional dynamics, contributing to lasting personal growth.
